Aarony Bailey (b. 2002) is a filmmaker and photographer based in South London. Through an honest and intimate lens, Bailey uses the camera to capture semi-autobiographical narratives surrounding femininity and sexuality, looking at the complexities of womanhood and the female body. Bailey materialises her work through the use of analogue film, specifically super 8, 16mm and 35mm, as well as using various other vintage methods of image capture and production, such as polaroid photography and risograph printing.

“I’m a filmmaker and photographer focused on exploring stories that capture the nuances of femininity and sexuality.
My visual practice embraces nostalgia, experimenting with analogue and vintage technologies, and capturing themes of rebellion/voyeurism, sisterhood, and sexual desire.”

“‘Get Ready, Go Out, Have Fun’ are a series of polaroids that look at club culture from a female perspective. Celebrating friendship, nightlife, and girlhood, these polaroids highlight the importance of community and escapism, capturing a unique world where women care for one another and confide in each other. These polaroids, taken throughout summer 2023 in various different cities across the world, act as passport stamps; time capsules that hold memories and emotions that lived beyond the moment.
My larger scale prints hold a similar sentiment. These photographs are moments taken from trips across the world, from Brazil, to Spain, to Portugal, capturing community amongst women and safe spaces. Shot entirely on my 35mm point and shoot, these images hold movement, capturing the excitement and chaos of how it feels to be abroad on holiday.”
