ALESSANDRO NICOLOSO

Cluster Exhibitor | Photography & Print Fair 2022

Photography for Alessandro Nicoloso is an opportunity to become aware of oneself starting from an astonished gaze on reality; therefore, it tells much more about the photographer than about the object. Selecting what's inside and what's outside the frame means for Nicoloso to bring out echoes of deep emotions. He does’nt like to give titles to photos because the viewer must be able to hear their own echoes without being influenced by the caption. The predilection for bw derives from its intrinsic communicative essentiality. He shoots with the Leica M in street photography, using medium and large format for landscape.

A photo should primarily allude rather than show
— A.N.

A large part of my photography coincides with the search for myself by observing reality in its double value of objectivity and sign. I photograph in a very instinctive way, “tripping” in the shot; rarely, usually when I deal with landscape, do I plan the shots. I don't like giving a title to the photos because "if you have to explain it, it means that it didn't turn out well" (A.Adams). I collect my photos in "series", in themes, which take shape little by little over time and in fact they never run out.
