BADÈ FUWA
Cluster Photography & Print Exhibitor | 2025
Badè Fuwa is a self-taught photographer based in Lagos, Nigeria. Badè is a storyteller; his journey into the world of photography is a testament to the transformative power of art in the face of life's trials and tribulations.
Badè's entrée into the world of photography in late 2022 was as serendipitous as it was poignant. It was a period marked by profound personal loss, as he sought solace and respite in the embrace of friends during a visit to the Osun Oshogbo festival 2021. Little did he know that this journey would unveil a new passion that would shape the course of his life. Photography, he realised, was not merely a visual medium but a conduit for the expression of his innermost emotions.
ARTWORK FOR PURCHASE AVAILABLE SOON
Before embarking on his photographic odyssey, Badè had ventured into the world of fashion design. He honed his craft at the prestigious Ade Bakare Couture London atelier from 2018 - 2019. This immersion in the world of fashion served as a foundation for his later creative endeavours, providing a unique blend of influences that would permeate his work. He has had his early academic background from the CMS Grammar school Bariga Lagos to studying English Language and Literature from the Tai Solarin University of Education further enriched his poetic artistic sensibilities, infusing his work with depth and narrative.
Despite his relatively short time in the realm of photography, Badè's talent quickly caught the eye of the fashion world. His lens has graced fashion projects such as the Arise Fashion Week, the Homecoming Festival Lagos, Fashion Finest Africa, and more. His ability to capture not just moments but emotions has resonated deeply with his audience, establishing him as a rising star in the photography industry.
Badè draws inspiration from the giants who have trodden the photographic path before him – luminaries like Peter Lindbergh, Irving Penn, and Helmut Newton. To him, their stories serve as lectures, guiding lights to help him navigate the challenging terrain of photography. While he acknowledges their influence, Bade is committed to forging his own unique style, one that pays homage to his mentors while embracing his individuality.
Badè's work has transcended borders and graced the pages of prestigious publications like Vogue, Gup magazine, Suboart magazine etc. His talent has earned him accolades, including the Global photo Peace Award and triumph in the Levi x Vogue 501 Levi competition. His philosophy is simple yet profound – to capture great photos, one must plan meticulously, yet leave room for spontaneity. It is in these unscripted moments that he believes the true magic of photography resides.
As his photography has evolved, so too has Badè's personal growth. He has come to cherish everyday moments, recognising that life's beauty exists not only through the lens but in the world around him. His early focus on his craft has given way to a broader appreciation for the intricacies of existence.
For Badè, photography is more than a career; it is a means of documenting the past, an intimate dialogue with memories. His images serve as a testament to the emotions, experiences, and stories that have shaped his life. Through exhibitions and photo fairs in London, Abidjan, Nigeria, Rwanda, America, Russia, etc, to also having his work on a billboard on the streets of London, he hopes to share this deeply personal journey with a global audience, inviting them to explore the vivid tapestry of his memories.
In Badè's own words, "If photography did not find me when it did, I wouldn't be alive today." It is through this profound artistry that he has discovered not only a means of self-survival but a lifeline that connects him with people around the world. Badè Fuwa's photography is a testament to the enduring power of art to transcend adversity and forge connections that span continents, cultures, and time itself.
