BLOOMING CARNIVEROUS CHOKER | 2023

Beatriz Miotto, a UK-based jeweller, draws inspiration from the adaptability of nature, a fascination shaped by her upbringing in diverse environments. Growing up in Brazil, Italy, and the UK, she developed a deep appreciation for the resilience of unique flora, particularly those thriving in nutrient-poor ecosystems. This interest led her to study the Drosera species, commonly known as Sundews.

Her love for movement in jewellery found a perfect match in carnivorous plants, which embody kinetic elegance. Beatriz's journey into jewellery began during her Art & Design foundation year in London, where she was inspired by established designers and had the opportunity to interview one. She later pursued a bachelor’s degree in Jewellery Design & Silversmithing at the Glasgow School of Art, where she mastered traditional techniques and explored contemporary approaches.

Combining her newfound passion for materiality in contemporary jewellery with her fascination for kinetic designs, Beatriz experiments with innovative materials that mimic natural movements, aiming to create wearable, living-like creatures.

PROPAGATION CREATURE I | 2023

Bea Miotto is a contemporary jeweller who merges lightweight materials with intricate structures designed to respond to the wearer’s movements, allowing them to carry their own living-like creations wherever they go. Drawing inspiration from carnivorous plants, Bea explores not only their captivating movement but also their alluring strategies, playing with the concept of enticing the wearer as though they, too, might be drawn in.

The vivid colours and glistening nectar droplets that carnivorous flora use to attract prey inspired Bea to delve into the fundamental mechanisms of entrapment. By employing techniques such as wirework and granulation, she crafts intricate, organic forms that symbolise the life cycles of plants. Through innovative combinations of elastic and resin, she recreates the mesmerising appeal that carnivorous plants hold for insects, bringing these dynamic, otherworldly qualities into wearable art.
