CARLOTA DOS SANTOS
Cluster Exhibitor | LIVE Performance | Photography & Print Fair 2022
Carlota dos Santos is a Portuguese artist based in London. Her work explores the spaces in between the disciplines of Fine art, Performing Arts and Fashion, emerging across performance art, photography and installation art.
The human body, as both a medium and a research focus, unfolds the patterns behind the artist’s work. As the experimentation process evolves, there is a celebration of the human body with itself and the environment. The materiality of each piece translates itself through patterns of movement, breathes, flows, and contact between bodies of the most distinct natures, which brings elements of tension to the work.
The process becomes the artwork itself in her artistic practice.
Carlota has recently graduated from the MA Contemporary Photography at Central Saint Martins, and is currently expanding her Performance practice while studying on the MA Performance, in the same college.
Absent Matter
What is the relationship between the human body and footwear? Could shoes exist without the human body?
One-hundred and thirty-two strings, sixteen pairs of shoes, one human body, and the tension created amongst different natures.
Absent Matter is a durational performance piece that embraces the nature of things, and of the human body. Bodies are celebrated in their fragility, and gravity leads the piece as the weight of the bodies in performance is challenged in an interdependent relationship.
You will be able to see Carlota’s performance “Absent Matter”
at the opening of Cluster’s latest Photography Fair.
