CHARLOTTE KARIN
Cluster Exhibitor | Cluster Crafts | 2022
Charlotte Karin is a designer specialising in woven constructed textiles. Her practice is centred around the contemplative aspect thinking through making, fabricating handwoven textiles. Her heritage marks a principal part of her making. Growing up with her Grandparents surrounded by nature, Charlotte pays attention to intricacies; underlying details and lived experiences influence her, the complexity of the visible and the invisible matter provides infinite possibilities to inspire her work.
After graduating from the University for the Creative Arts Farnham in 2021, renowned for long-established hand-crafted skills. Achieving a first class BA (hons) degree in Textile Design, Charlotte is currently undertaking a Master in Textiles at the Royal College of Art.
Charlotte has developed a unique and personal approach to her process and concepts in textile construction, which stems from a highly exploratory focus. Hand fabricating textiles with dye techniques and woven leno structures; the illusion of threads crossing over one another, twisting, and altering the understanding of warp and weft.
Developing the method with substance and narrative in the context of space. The textile abstractions capture memories through the essence of colour and sculptural transients. Articulating a mood through an immersive ambiance with shadow, light, and sensations.
