CHIARA DONDI
Cluster Exhibitor | Photography & Print Fair 2022
Chiara Dondi is an Italian film photographer based in northern Italy. She has studied Industrial Design at the University of Florence.
Interested in painting since she was a little child, during the academic years she has discovered analogue photography.
All of her production tries to combine film photography with her past as a painter.
After the development every photo is carefully hand-painted with watercolours creating pictures full of introspection and symbolism.
The first theme I try to "make mine" is the double, through the use of double exposures or making two people interact in the same photo .
This allowed me to explore the duality of the feelings that live in all of us.
Another particular attention that I have is the central role of women.
The main characters of my shots are women and I try to portray them in their facets and complexity, also staging them one in front of the other.
The final and really important characteristic of my aesthetic is the atmosphere that I have always tried to give to my photos, a kind of suspension over time and the greatest support to achieve this is the decision to paint the photos with watercolors after their development and printing.
