“In my first and third images, I wanted to make a comment on my British heritage with a twist. I followed a similar type of painterly lighting as well as referencing the classical painting Narcissus by focusing on the subject’s reflection in the mirror. From a far this costume appears to resemble that of Shakespearian dress, yet the pieces are in fact from modern fashion designers who focus on pushing form and gender boundaries. In the second ‘Lolita’ also plays on ideas of reflections and being in the spotlight. In the fourth image I intended to continue the narcissistic theme with the adorned outfit, flower crown and powerful Statue of Liberty pose. In the last 2 images I wanted to explore the idea of obscurity through the use of lighting and props.”
