This piece was created shortly after Chadwick Boseman, star of the movie Black Panther, had passed away. Our culture was incredibly moved by that movie, as well as the female soldiers that played a huge role. I was also in a transition of incorporating more of our culture’s natural hairstyles into my work. I decided that I wanted her to have sengalese twists tucked into somewhat of a warrior-inspired uniform but from the future. I was deeply moved by this piece and I loved her stance and her strength that I felt upon finishing.
