Pei Chen, LIU decided to take a different approach to express her sense of art in jewelry making after pursuing both art forms in words and garment with her studies in textile and literature. In the summer of 2017, Pei arrived in Spain to study traditional jewelry making and the spirit of craftsmanship.

She found passion throughout the process; her way of creating a piece is often without a sketch, finding it inspiring to let her hands and instinct guide her.

Her most well-known skill is wax carving; this technique allows her to express fluid and organic shapes she observed, translated in the creative process through free-hand wax carving.

Pei's vision in her jewelry-making life is not only about creating pieces that follow popular trends but also expressing herself through her artistic creations. She applies traditional silversmithing and bench jeweler knowledge to fulfill her desire for authenticity.

To promote her work to the public, Pei serves as the curator of Crush Jewel, a brand based in Barcelona that focuses on presenting the natural beauty of shapes in an elegant manner, without overly emphasizing perfection. A portion of her proceeds is dedicated to promoting ethical practices within the jewelry industry, where craftsmanship meets conscious consumption.

To bring her vision to reality, Pei collaborates with traditional casters in Barcelona who have been operating for generations, as well as with a local tailor for packaging. Although she understands the challenges of putting her vision into practice for economic reasons, participating in fairs and exhibitions is the best way she knows to spread the word.
