“I enjoy walking around the city, observing the details of the built environment that unfold before me. Our surroundings play an important role in establishing our sense of place and belonging. They offer notions of home, belonging, identity, and potentially exclusion. The architects of the urban landscape seem far removed, as I merely receive what they choose to create. The photographs reflect my need to take ownership of the world as it manifests in the contemporary city, and to sublimate it into my own imagined reality. The photographs tread a fine line between photo reportage and the need to convey a personal response. My work has been influenced by the Futurists and the Fauvists. Colour is very important to me for its spatial and emotional expressiveness.”
