Daniela White is a photographer and artist living and working in London, UK. She photographs the buildings and spaces created by the architectural development of the city. She documents her surroundings in a personal style; colourful, abstracted, concerned with giving an emotional twist to the objective observation of the urban world. She transforms the realism of the photograph to exploit the structural and abstract qualities of the subject.

CITY | 2024

Although her Fine Art Degree was in painting, Daniela started taking photographs with her father’s Rolleiflex from an early age. Following her Masters degree at London School of Art, she became increasingly interested in realism and veracity, questioning what a photograph can convey and how it can be the focus for expressing a personal identity as an artist.
Her work has included projects in photography, painting and printmaking. She has exhibited regularly.

I enjoy walking around the city, observing the details of the built environment that unfold before me. Our surroundings play an important role in establishing our sense of place and belonging. They offer notions of home, belonging, identity, and potentially exclusion. The architects of the urban landscape seem far removed, as I merely receive what they choose to create. The photographs reflect my need to take ownership of the world as it manifests in the contemporary city, and to sublimate it into my own imagined reality. The photographs tread a fine line between photo reportage and the need to convey a personal response. My work has been influenced by the Futurists and the Fauvists. Colour is very important to me for its spatial and emotional expressiveness.
