Dienie Brouwer is a Dutch image maker living and working in Amsterdam. In 2019 she graduated cum laude with her installation POETRY IN MOTION from the Photo-academy in Amsterdam. In 2021 she was 1 of the 5 nominees for talent of the year by GUP NEW. In an intuitive way she collects images, which she sometimes reworks by hand.

She combines poetic images with innovative new technical concepts, in her work she is always looking for the layers, the stories that lie hidden behind the visible reality.

Is about mortality. And mankind's constant struggle against mortality. We live our lives now, active, busy with all kinds of things, careers, family life, but in the end it all ends. We all live in a kind of vicious circle of being born and dying again.

People have always resisted their mortality. Even now, the struggle against old age is all around us. We try to preserve our beauty, if necessary by cosmetic surgery, we exercise to keep fit. By extension, you could say that my photos are also about the fear of death.

Personally, I also fight against that fear. The fate of the ageing woman for whom the light is inexorably extinguished and who sees her place in society further marginalised. Instead of a participant, she becomes a spectator. I follow my own transience and show the struggle against old age. So this series consists of parts, now you still see the beauty and not the decay, do I dare to show the decay? Or will it remain a fight?
