Félix Navarro´s ceramics are the result of a lifetime linked to art. His first contact with a clay pellet was at the Arts and Crafts School in Madrid, where he discovered modeling, volume, shape... and infinite possibilities to build something from scratch. This attraction to matter marked him forever. But the road to become an artist is not easy so he combined his job as graphic designer with painting for several years. He participated in several national and international exhibitions and fairs and has intermittently collaborated with a few galleries. As a painter, his works where full of textures and the material always predominated over the drawing. As a ceramist, he follows the same line of work, and the personality and dramatism of his works are the contribution of textures. His work suggests neglect, abandonment, and the passage of time… “as if they had just been taken out from the bottom of the sea.”

Artistic ceramic pieces more sculptural than functional with rough finishes, very thoughtful pieces created in a perfect workspace, PotteryGym, where he is surrounded by great ceramists with whom he can share, learn and collaborate.

I am always uncertain when I finish a ceramic piece, I always look for something more and have doubts about the final touch. I love working with clay because, on the one hand, it gives you that freedom to correct, take advantage of the material, turn the piece around, even start over, but on the other hand, in the end, at the moment of truth and despite the tests, the fire is the one who decides. Surprise! Sometimes it excites you and other times it sends you back to square one to try again.

CORAL | DETAIL

My intention is to find the balance between the aggressiveness of the textures and the sobriety of the form.
Erosion, stones, rust, the passage of time on things give me ideas and the challenge is to achieve those effects
in my pieces. An enormous world of possibilities techniques and materials seems to be enough to achieve it,
but many times chance, an accidental color, a crack or a texture in the corner of a piece becomes the germ of
the next.
