FO XIAO

Primarily using food and ceramics as her materials, FoFo seamlessly integrates the two in her creations. Additionally, she is a member of the three-person art collective, @FluidTable. Within the FluidTable, FoFo and her peers utilize ceramics, textiles, sound, and food materials to create spaces and moments, engaging in performance art. They invite people to experience and explore the relationship between humans and the world. Having hosted many events in London, UK, and cities like Shanghai and Wuhan in China, FoFo and her team have left participants with fascinating experiences and profound impressions.

PARALLEL

I’m fascinated by the striking similarities between ceramics and food materials. The ingredients, processes, skills, and outcomes of these two art forms exhibit countless parallels. I also question their traditional roles on the dining table, asking: Should ceramics only serve as functional tableware? Should food be solely for consumption? By combining these mediums, I blur their boundaries, playing with shape, texture, and form, enabling viewers to reflect through experience. My work ranges from small structures to large-scale installations exploring the dynamic relationships within dining events. I continually push artistic boundaries, experimenting with techniques like sculpting with pasta, molding sugar, chocolate, and jelly, and intertwining bread dough with ceramics. I also use food colors to decorate ceramic surfaces with glazes infused with beetroot juice or matcha powder.
