Frauke Famira is a German graphic designer and jewellery maker.
After studying graphic design in Hamburg, she moved to Paris. Following painting and drawing classes at École des Beaux-Arts and Accadémie de la Grande-Chaumière, she started working for magazines such as Decoration International and Vogue and later designed books for lifestyle and art publishers.

During the artist’s numerous strolls through Parisian marché aux puces, she loved to look at the multitude of exhibited objects, each piece being a testimony of an era, a way of life and style, and she developed a taste for “early plastic“ objects and fashion jewellery. She was enchanted by the originality of these pieces and started to experiment with the materials she found. In addition to recycled finds, she now works with synthetic materials such as resins and acetate.

Famira also likes to experiment with paper. Her acetate pieces are manufactured after models she developed in paper. Since her return to Germany a few years ago, she has decided to focus solely on jewellery making.
In Frauke’s jewellery work she strives to combine the idea of attractive and joyful fashion accessories with a geometric concept.
Geometry is the basis of her work. She is enchanted by the clarity and the inner logic that lie in a simple square or circle. It impresses her that these forms and functions are “timeless“ and that they are impersonal. She is aware that they belong to the heart of our universal order. When she experiments with one of these basic elements and discovers a new form hidden in it, she feels that she has rediscovered a tiny part of this creative and universal logic and that makes her happy. The multitude of variations astounds her and she loves the aesthetic simplicity of these forms.
