Farrell’s approach to art is deeply influenced by personal history, migration, and a quest for universal understanding. Her distinctive portraiture has garnered international recognition, with consecutive showings at the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize (National Portrait Gallery, London, 2016 and 2017). Her project Minecrafting won the ArtGemini Prize, and her series Helix, which examines the legacy of British maritime industries, earned The Dockyard Prize. Farrell’s installations, such as ‘Another Realm’, combine two- and three-dimensional elements to create serene, meditative spaces that encourage collective reflection.

By layering photography with cultural symbols and scientific influences, Farrell invites viewers to question societal conditioning and reconnect with an unconditioned human experience. Her work is a call for unity and empathy, bridging the gap between individuality and shared humanity.

My work explores the delicate intersections between humanity and nature, identity and culture, memory and transformation. Through various mediums, I strive to capture moments of quiet resonance, where the personal becomes universal, and the ordinary transforms into the extraordinary.

Central to my practice is transcending societal archetypes. Whether through abstracted photographs of industrial spaces, layered X-ray collages blending organic and cultural motifs, or immersive installations like ‘N33°54' E35°28'’, I aim to evoke a sense of memory and unity. Migration is a key experience that has shaped my work, reflecting the fluidity of movement—of people, ideas, and emotions—across borders, physical and metaphysical.

Themes of resilience, identity, and movement are recurring threads in my art. ‘I Like It Here’ for instance, reflects on adaptability and conquest over challenging journeys, whilst my Series ‘Boys Will Be Boys’ examines the innate playfulness of youth transcending individual identity to reveal a universal connection to our shared humanity.

Ultimately, my art is an invitation to pause and reconnect—with ourselves, one another, and the natural and cultural environments we inhabit. Through this dialogue, I hope to cultivate deeper empathy and a more inclusive understanding of our shared journey.
