HENDRIKE BARZ-MELTZER
Cluster Contemporary Jewellery Exhibitor | 2024
Hendrike Barz-Meltzer creates jewellery which has a clear, understated and elegant aesthetic. She is fascinated by lines and patterns in other art forms or which may occur in nature. These often find expression in her pieces through the application of gold patterns on silver backgrounds. Inspirations for her pieces can come from the above but may also result from exploring stories, current affairs or other thoughts. She believes passionately in the value and appeal of the hand-made and, to avoid over-production, keeps the production limited, focussing on small collections and one-off pieces.
Environmental sustainability and an ethical working practice are paramount considerations in her practice and constitute an on-going process of reflection and improvement. These principles guide her selection of materials, chemicals and working practices. Hendrike works with a variety of materials: mainly (but not limited to) silver, gold, silk or recycled plastic. Her studio is based in St Albans, Hertfordshire and she sells her work through her own website, carefully selected galleries, exhibitions and annual fairs throughout the UK.
