Juanjo Barreda is a painter from Castellón de la Plana [Spain], currently living in London.

He has always been inspired by ancient civilizations, with the Mediterranean region as a focal point, and fascinated and terrified by the ones to come [AI, I know you are listening].

His mind wanders, from Athens to London, from Cy Twombly to Deep Mind.

He briefly lived in NYC and took courses at the SVA and at the Art Students League NYC.

He worked as a graphic designer, wrote a dystopian fiction essay called ‘IM54 / Immigrant manual 2054’ and launched a clothing brand based on collaborations with urban artists.

He performed [‘On falling & recovering’ dance project by Hagit Yakira] and created textile artworks [‘Numochi’, in collaboration with costume designer and performer LulaLand]

But he always comes back to painting, to the craft of creating images, to portrait the ones around and what is not around.

We love because we were loved, and we hit because we were hit.
Nothing nor nobody is fully independent, nor fully dependent.
Everything is a system, and each part of the system is a system in itself.
Everything moves, embraces and attacks, looks for and runs away, pushes and blurs.
Nothing makes sense and yet it does, although not given to us to understand,
just feel.
It’s exhausting, but so beautiful.
It is.
