JULIA NOBLE
Cluster Exhibitor | Cluster Contemporary | 2022
Julia Noble lives and works in London and received her BA (First Class Hons) in Fine Art from the Cass School of Art and Design.
Her journey to becoming an artist began after the tragic early death of her sister which resulted in a change of career from lawyer to artist. She loves to create vibrant, colourful, energetic artworks that transfix and transport the viewer to a happy place. It is her response to death and her approach to life - to meet it head on with positivity and hope. Julia is inspired by the beauty that surrounds us: the setting sun, the reflection of light on water, the colour palette of the world and the shapes that nature provides. She does not try to replicate these things but to create her own version based on the memory of places, moments, colours.
Julia’s work was selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2022. Her work has featured in House & Garden November Edition “Wise Buys” and the Art Edit for October, November and December. She has exhibited at the hClub, Covent Garden, the Highgate Gallery, Gallery@oxo, the Affordable Art Fair (where one of her artworks was singled out in the Director’s top picks) and hosted exhibitions of her work at Jealous East, Shoreditch, and JM Gallery, Portobello Road and participated in numerous group shows. Her work has been displayed in the hClub Hotel, the offices of Osborne Clarke LLP and Simkins LLP. Julia also exhibited at the Other Art Fair in June/July, 2022.
Julia also delights in trying to establish how other artists have created their work. She likes to set the same challenge for her viewers. The works are never what they seem from a distance and require close inspection. Julia employs a complex system of production, setting herself rules and these result in kaleidoscopic, rhythmic image that are not preconceived but are a consequence of the processes and colour choices.
Julia Noble’s practice involves an investigation into materials, the tendencies they possess and how those tendencies can be pushed. Inspired by artists such as Klee and Matisse, she uses paper together with crayons, acrylic, a singer sewing machine and resin to create large scale multi-layered works.Julia is fascinated by the impact of colour and use crayons and inks that are premixed so that the results are determined by the combinations and placement rather than the mixing of colours. Each series of work is based on a theme and the variations result from the different colour palettes chosen.
