KAROLINA BRODNICKA & MICHAELA BAROCHOVA
Cluster Contemporary Jewellery Exhibitors | 2024
Michaela Barochova is a jeweller and mixed-media artist with a background in printmaking. She studied jewellery at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem and graduated with a BA in Jewellery Design from the Faculty of Design and Art in Pilsen, Czech Republic, before continuing her jewellery studies at K2 Academy and founding her jewellery brand, Numinous. Inspired by the Rorschach test, each piece is an inkblot transferred onto metal using a photo etching technique, inviting the wearer to delve into the subconscious. Her work was featured at London Fashion Week 2023, as part of Olubiyi Thoma’s fashion show.
Karolina Brodnicka, a London-based jewellery artist, graduated from BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins in 2015, before pursuing a career in the jewellery industry and undergoing a two-year study at K2 Academy. Following her studies, she founded her jewellery brand, Out of Order, which focuses on wax manipulation and melting processes. Through her work, she symbolically explores themes such as transformation and rebirth.
'Tectonic' is a collaboration between two K2 Academy graduates, Michaela Barochova and Karolina Brodnicka. The jewellery combines Michaela's signature Rorschach inkblot motifs, derived from her brand Numinous, with Karolina’s molten, organic forms, a hallmark of her brand Out of Order.
‘Tectonic’ is a meditation on the primal forces that mould our planet's crust. In this collection, the dialogue between Michaela’s intricately photo-etched surfaces, reminiscent of our planet's rugged topography, and Karolina’s liquefied silhouettes, reflecting the untamed flow of lava, forges a compelling narrative of the Earth’s incessant evolution and nature's relentless flux. The series is a visual testament to perpetual change.
