EMERGENCE | 2023

Kathy Harms is a Canadian-born photographer currently residing in Portugal. Her work is deeply rooted in a philosophy she describes as “seeing the world more slowly,” using photography as a medium to capture the subtle and often overlooked details of everyday life. For Kathy, photography serves as both a meditative practice and a method to bring calmness amidst the chaos of the modern world.

In her pursuit of storytelling through visual art, Kathy has embraced a variety of techniques, including multiple-exposure and intentional camera movement (ICM). These methods allow her to create layered, conceptual scenes that often incorporate human figures, offering a narrative depth and emotional resonance. Kathy’s work seeks to transcend traditional photography, she invites viewers to pause, reflect, and engage with the world through a contemplative lens.

WAVES OF CHANGE | 2023

My approach is guided by a deep appreciation for the power of imagery to convey complex emotions and capture the essence of a moment. I am drawn to creating visually compelling and vivid images that resonate with the viewer, allowing them to engage with the narrative beyond the frame.

’Elemental Beauty: Emerging from the Storm’ is a series created between 2021 and 2023, with locations spanning Canada and Portugal. This collection of work explores the interplay between the feminine form and the untamed forces of nature. The photographs portray women in emotionally charged and powerful poses, evoking themes of resilience, grace, and strength. The images invite the viewer to ponder whether the subjects are at the mercy of the natural elements, or whether they embody the very essence of those elements, standing as forces of nature themselves.
