KERNOW STARS | PINK BABY

Kayleigh Cooper is a distinguished artist whose work centres around themes of identity and inclusivity. Her visual journey began with capturing photographs on her mobile phone, finding joy in organising photoshoots featuring her friends as models.

After receiving a digital camera, Cooper delved deeper into the medium and pursued a photography course at college. Following a gap year, she enrolled at university, where her passion for studio work flourished.

Her primary focus became portrait photography, and she enthusiastically experimented with vibrant backdrops and lighting techniques. Cooper’s artistic goal is to empower individuals and raise awareness of significant topics such as mental health. Drawing from her personal experiences and emotions, she seeks to connect with both herself and her models, creating impactful work. This approach fosters a comfortable atmosphere, inspiring confidence and allowing the unique personalities of her subjects to shine through.

Kernow Stars

Kernow Stars celebrates how drag performers in Cornwall express themselves through their art, offering a glimpse into their unique performance styles. This work shines a spotlight on these characters, providing an insight into their artistry. The studio serves as an alternative stage where performers can showcase their authentic drag personas.

Drag performance is a powerful form of self-expression and a platform to stand up for what you believe in. Historically, drag has often carried a political motive, challenging societal norms and advocating for LGBTQ+ rights. While I am passionate about this movement’s fight for acceptance, I also see drag as a celebration of individual creativity through performance.
