I photograph the man-made objects scattered along the coastline by greatly distorting them. The composition of the vertical position is conscious of the composition of ukiyo-e. The background is the sun and the sea as symbol of life. I feel that the visuals projected in that way are like strange creatures. It’s as if the concept of tsukumogami, which has been handed down in Japan, appears in the photograph through the power of the camera. Tsukumogami is a legend that worn-out tools have souls and become living creatures. I believe that I am reviving the tsukumogami in modern times.
