BEAUTIFUL AGE WHAT WE NEVER SEEN EVEN THOUGH WE ARE LOOKING III
Lisa Jayne Cramer (b. 1964) is an Australian photographer. Through her lens, she captures the meditative aspects of beauty and the redemptive power of love. Her cryptic yet deliberate work creates a dense atmosphere of complex emotions. She seeks to challenge viewers, evoking a slight discomfort and prompting them to question loss and desire beneath the surface of waking life.
A self-taught artist with a strong interest in self-portraiture, she completed a Creative Photography Course at Photography Studies College Melbourne (2016) and Seeing Through Photographs with MoMA NYC (2020). More recently, Lisa has undertaken darkroom printing courses and large-format photography workshops.
Lisa is a 2025 scholarship recipient for the Long Term Program: The Photobook at the Penumbra Foundation, NYC.

BEAUTIFUL AGE WHAT WE NEVER SEEN EVEN THOUGH WE ARE LOOKING I
“My practice is centred on beauty, for beauty is the splendour of life—exploring meaning through feeling.
Beautiful Age: what we never SEE, even though we are looking (ongoing) is an ode to my mother. Life seems to pass so quickly, and my love for her glows ever warmer in the golden light of winter, as I sense her departure drawing near. We now live together in a house built long ago—cluttered and beautiful. I imagine this house without her and feel a mournful, lilting sway of sadness.
There is something intensely quiescent, yet ever present, within her gaze. We both feel the weight of time’s passing, and I strive to capture a soul that is warrior-like and ageless—though not timeless.”
