A LACED FRIEND | 2024

Loraine Rebaud (b. 1989) is a French photographer based in London. With a background in art management and cultural mediation, she has cultivated a deep appreciation for graphic arts, cinema, and music. In 2013, she embarked on a self-taught journey into photography, dedicating her spare time to learn the craft of photography.

As a passionate enthusiast of analogue photography and black-and-white imagery, she enjoys experimenting with a variety of vintage cameras. She plays with different film types, light conditions, aperture settings, and exposure levels to create unique contrasts and textures, often embracing fortunate accidents that contribute to her distinctive aesthetic.

In her work, she focuses on the immediacy of the moment, capturing nightlife scenes, urban landscapes, and the dynamic blur of movement alongside portraits of individuals she encounters in clubs and music venues. Drawing inspiration from Antoine d’Agata’s dreamlike style, as well as the sharp contrasts of Daido Moriyama and the poetic compositions of Graciela Iturbide, she seeks to uncover the wonder in the everyday, the beauty in transience, and the enchantment of fleeting moments.

Exhibited several times in Bordeaux (France), her work has also been shown at the Elektrowerkz for Risposte Queer Rave in 2022 as well as New River Studio in 2023.

I am a visual artist specialising in analogue photography, focusing on urban landscapes, portraits, and nightlife scenes, including fleeting moments with rare birds encountered in alternative clubs and venues. My goal is to capture fragments of life and freeze ephemeral moments with spontaneity and a touch of poetic melancholy. To document these experiences, I utilize various analogue cameras and films with diverse sensitivities, grains, and color palettes. This process compels me to thoughtfully consider composition while embracing the surprises of film development, where unexpected results can often lead to aesthetic beauty.

My approach attempts to be a harmonious blend of experimentation and allowing chance to unfold naturally. Ultimately, I aspire to connect with viewers on a sensitive, transient, and intimate level. Through my lens, I seek to create a mirror that reflects my own perspective while inviting observers to journey through the moments I captured, often infused with a sense of nostalgia and lyricism.
