Mariko Kumon is a Japanese artist who lives in Barcelona. She graduated in applied mathematics from a university in Japan. Almost twenty years ago she had changed her life. She began studying art, especially sculpture. She studied casting and sculpture at The Escola de la Llotja (Barcelona)

Her graduation work was presented on behalf of the school at the Barcelona Contemporary Culture Center. She has participated in numerous exhibitions not only in Spain, but also in England, United States, France, Italy, and other countries around the world. She has participated in over 90 exhibitions in her almost 20 years of art career.

In many cases she describe life with deep emotions and always intuitively plays it. Also for her, the line is the personal representation of her ideas and thoughts. These suggestive power lines convey moods, thus building a personal language.

ROUND & ROUND #12 | 2018

I am very fascinated by lines. It’s not a straight line, it’s an unpredictable one. the line transmuted into wire is the personal representation of my ideas and thoughts. A line that, curving, twisting and undulating, seeks to find its own space from the inside.
Also, some of my works are fragments of conversations with nature.
“Just as a spider weaves a web and a silkworm weaves a cocoon, I create works through my memories and emotions.
