Lorenzo Montalvo AKA Montalvo.ai (b. 1989) is a Swiss artist and graphic designer specialising in branding, identity, and the fusion of artificial intelligence with visual art. He lives and works in Switzerland.
Three years ago, Lorenzo discovered MidJourney. Captivated from the start, he immersed himself in experimentation and quickly recognised that AI could accelerate creative workflows while allowing space for the unexpected. He has also lectured on MidJourney and AI at several Swiss agencies.
Lorenzo’s work strikes a balance between surrealism and hyperrealism, with portraiture at its core. He actively plays with contrasts in colour, materials, and texture to create tension between reality and fantasy. Colour drives his creative process, and he spends hours perfecting each palette.
He combines MidJourney with Photoshop—and occasionally Lightroom—to refine his AI-generated images with a personal touch. Nature inspires him; its organic forms, vibrant hues, and diverse textures regularly appear in his work. Equally, he is drawn to futuristic visions, particularly in fashion and aesthetics, incorporating elements that push the boundaries of design and storytelling.
Through his art, Lorenzo Montalvo explores the intersection of human creativity and artificial intelligence, crafting visual narratives that transport viewers into a realm between reality and imagination.
“My creative practice revolves around the theme of metamorphosis—the unstoppable transformation of identity, emotion, and form. Here, I present Metamorphosis, a series in which I merge surreal and hyperreal portraits to create a dynamic dialogue between reality and fantasy.
I incorporate organic forms that blend with futuristic design elements, creating a fluid interplay between nature and technology. Inspired by the perfection of nature and the infinite possibilities of a technologically advanced future, my work challenges traditional notions of self and transformation, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the beauty of constant change.”
