OLGA MARQUES
Cluster Contemporary Jewellery Exhibitor | 2024
Olga Marques, born in 1984 in Porto, initiated her academic journey in contemporary jewel crafting at ESAD Matosinhos, subsequently advancing her skills at Engenho & Arte. Following the completion of her studies, she contributed to the field by teaching jewellery techniques at Engenho & Arte. In 2016, Olga became an integral part of the Tincal Lab project, dedicated to promoting independent contemporary jewellery. Since joining, she has actively participated in numerous exhibitions, both as an individual jeweller and as member of Tincal Lab, showcasing her dedication to the flourishing world of contemporary jewellery.
Her artistic endeavours manifest through use of metals like bronze and silver and experimenting with 3D printing, employing traditional techniques to explore and experiment with a range of styles, from the surreal to the distinctive attributes of each piece. For Olga, a jewellery piece transcends mere static representation, it serves as a conduit for fluidity and movement. Whether embodied in its form or expressed through dynamic action, each piece embodies a philosophy that challenges conventional notions of stasis in jewellery design.
Olga Marques endeavours to build upon the traditional techniques of jewelcrafting, a new wave of colour, disposition and progress in materials. Embracing a lighthearted perspective towards jewellery, she not only pays homage to the traditional artisans but also champions a new generation of artists, craftsmen, and their innovative ideas and materials.
The world is changing right before our eyes, an older generation of decision makers is giving way to a newer one, with a different take on life. We value the world as a living entity and not property, we no longer want to linger in office desks. We value dreams, opinions, hopes and hold accountable those who make an effort to bring all this down. Olga's artistic focus aligns with the newfound determination of these emerging generations. For her, earrings transcend mere accessories, and bracelets symbolise more than adornments – they embody distinctiveness, freedom, and, most importantly, breathe life into an often stagnant world.
