Robbie Spotswood is a London-based Photographer. Working in a personal documentary style, using his camera to create a visual diary; the relationship with the 'audience' and 'the image' informs the process of his image making. Ultimately seeking to share vivid and dream-like narratives revolving around personal experiences.

Raised in a matriarchal, West African home themes of identity, culture and race inevitably bleed into the narratives and imagery he produces. Robbie's visual work, especially his use of portraiture, explores ideas of performance in the presence of a camera and often depict intimate and quiet moments.

Exploring themes of loss and isolation following the autobiographical story told through images of his family and the spaces they inhabit split between two cities: Accra, Ghana and London, England.

Almost all of the images, except for a few specific and considered exceptions were shot inside, many of these were inside Robbie’s grandmother's house - sadly the images were made both prior to and following her passing. By documenting both the empty spaces inside her, and other family members' houses, as well as the characterful family members that fill these spaces, Robbie is able to draw together the complex combination of emotions he was dealing with. By doing so he creates images that explore the wide range of emotions experienced by the individual, and by a collective.
