SANDRINE LINARES

Cluster Contemporary Jewellery Exhibitor 2024

My design practices a relationship between human activity and nature through the prism of abandoned spaces. I am captivated by the vegetation that settles in these places. This chaotic but resilient vitality inspires pieces that question our perception of the natural world.

ONDINE BRACELET | 2020

A new chapter began in 2010. Inspired by the discarded beauty of broken jewelry and cultivated straw, she started creating wearable art, each piece whispering stories of resilience and her own pioneering spirit. Her work questions the idealistic notion of untouched nature, exploring the intricate relationship between humans and the environment. Through her jewelry, she strives to spark dialogue and inspire us to build a more harmonious world for all.

Beyond aesthetics, my work delves into the complex tapestry woven by people and nature. Drawing from my roots as a basketmaker, natural fibers become more than just visual elements; they’re symbols of cultural heritage, and our everyday connections with the earth. By incorporating them into my jewelry, I push to question the natural world and its social significance.
I choose to work in the agricultural “edge” – where rural and wild elements meet – . These experimental spaces offer valuable insights into landscapes and the potential for creation.

SANDRINE LINARES

With a scientist's curiosity, she studies the impact of humanity on nature, observing how it reclaims its space with unexpected outcomes. These observations translate into her jewelry, each piece reflecting the delicate balance between control and uncertainty. This theme echoes her rural life and encourages us to question our perceptions of the world.

Her creations have graced international fairs, leaving stories woven into each piece. Beyond being a craftswoman, she is a storyteller, reminding us that even in the heart of the city, nature's resilience thrives, waiting to be rediscovered.

I think about a “hybrid nature” generated with the materials I find in these abandoned spaces and straw. This theme explores the tension between wild and cultivated, questioning the artificial borders we impose.
By highlighting the influence on these even apparently wild spaces, I invite a more nuanced understanding of our interconnectedness with nature.
Through my jewelry, I try to inspire us to create more harmonious environments – for ourselves, for nature and for generations to come.
