Sofie Leenen (1993) works and lives in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In 2018 she graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in the department 'Man and Well-Being'. From that moment on, she is the founder of her own studio and is focused as a designer of crafted objects to shape traditional making methods for the future.

Driven by a deep-rooted fascination for handmade products, she is always curious about how things are made. With her projects she wants to highlight crafts that are usually not visible or where knowledge of specific craftsmanship is even slowly disappearing. In recent years Sofie has worked on various projects such as; seasonal curtains, window scala, frontal profiles, colour behaviour and braided weave.

To preserve historical crafts, Sofie Leenen is looking for a balance between old and new techniques. This combination allows her to question and reflect on the origins of development and modern innovations > crafts of the future!

The first approach Sofie is often very technical so that she fully understands how the basics of a specific technique or craft is acting. As grip and experience on the specific method of making has arises, Sofie discovers her own handwriting within the possibilities of shaping the craft. Her writing expresses itself in a sense of proportions, behaviour in material and refinement tactility in the execution. Making tests and samples are created in which the making process finds its natural connection with the aesthetics of her design.
