“‘The painful suffering from cultural conflict could transform into hope through unity, understanding and empathy’.
The despair I feel of different cultures and religions suffering in conflict drives me to communicate important messages. It is possible though understanding these, there could be more harmonious consequences and peace. These messages are created by expressions of hope emerging from the pain of this torment using relevant colour, texture and form.”

“I create textile sculptures and wall hangings and also detailed drawings. The materials I use are chosen for their tactile quality, seeking to create a comforting feeling. They include yarns, threads and fabrics but sometimes with the addition of other contrasting materials. My techniques involve knitting, wrapping, felting, knotting and stitch in which process is also significant referencing therapeutic and calming practices.
Colour is important, providing a metaphor expressing the transformation from blood spilt and the agony of suffering through graduated tones to ivory conveying hope. Knots and spikes express tension, wrapped lengths and forms of cages convey protection, bundles suggest unity and cascading ivory forms with buds communicate hope.
It is essential that the context of this work leaves an impression on the viewer, leaving them to contemplate and consider.”
