THE HAUNTING | 2025
Zoie Desrosiers (b. 2004) is a photographer based in London. She studied Photography at Arts University Bournemouth for a year before moving to Central Saint Martins to study Culture, Criticism, and Curation. Having been raised in Panama by a Korean mother and an American father, Desrosiers has always struggled to understand where she belongs in the world.
REBIRTH | 2025
After receiving an old analogue camera as a teenager, she found a way to connect with the world around her. The visual medium became like a native tongue—she easily found inspiration in her coastal city, childhood friends, and endless visits to the cinema. Desrosiers’ visual style is influenced by film, memory, and maladaptive daydreams; she aims to illuminate the surrealism of the everyday. By examining the intricacies of her surroundings, routines, and relationships, she has discovered comfort in the ordinary and beauty in the mundane.
The Afterlife is a collection of photographs exploring the haunting of time, reality, and human existence in the 21st century.
We have become strangers in our own land, searching endlessly for a sense of belonging. We have turned the world into a commodity, finding the natural abnormal and the inevitable frightening. We stain the paths we carve and haunt spaces long after we have departed; our presence lingers like a ghost—the human spirit imprinted on every conquered corner of the world.
But the human spirit is not the only thing to experience this kind of afterlife. The camera renders the ephemeral eternal, capturing a moment that can only exist once and stretching it along the passage of time. Inspired by the relationship between humanity, the Earth, and temporality in the age of technology, this collection poses the question: how distant does forever feel in the 21st century?
